Your journey begins with a morning flight from Nairobi to Kigali. Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by a Chessie Holidays Safaris representative. Enjoy a refreshing coffee and a detailed briefing about your adventure at Novotel Umubano Hotel. Depart for Butare, a scenic two-hour drive, where you will visit the National Museum,
home to East Africa’s finest ethnographic collection. Lunch will be served at Ibis Hotel before continuing your drive to Nyungwe Forest Reserve via Gikongoro, with an optional stop at a genocide memorial site. The day concludes with dinner and an overnight stay at Gisakura Guest House, a simple yet charming lodge nestled in the heart of Nyungwe Forest.

Rise early for a thrilling day of primate tracking in Nyungwe Forest Reserve. Trek through the lush rainforest in search of chimpanzees and other primates, an experience that will last until mid-afternoon. After lunch, unwind with a visit to the picturesque Gisakura Tea Plantation and its factory, where you’ll learn about the tea-making process. Return to Gisakura Guest House for dinner and another peaceful night in the forest.

Embark on a second chimpanzee tracking adventure this morning, increasing your chances of encountering these fascinating creatures. After lunch at the guest house, journey west to Cyangugu on the shores of Lake Kivu. From here, a scenic speedboat ride will take you to the resort town of Kibuye for lunch, followed by a continuation to the serene Lake Kivu Serena Hotel. Relax and soak in the stunning lakeside views as you enjoy dinner and overnight at this luxurious retreat.

After a leisurely lakeside breakfast, depart for Ruhengeri, the base for gorilla trekking. The 1.5- hour drive along a paved road offers breathtaking scenic views, with stops for a picnic lunch en route. Arrive at Gorilla Mountain View Lodge in Kinigi, situated at the base of the volcanoes, where you’ll spend the evening surrounded by nature’s grandeur. Dinner and overnight at the lodge prepare you for the next day’s highlight.

Today’s adventure begins with an early breakfast before heading to the Volcano Park office for gorilla trekking formalities. After a briefing by park guides, enter the forest for an unforgettable encounter with mountain gorillas. The trek may last until midday, depending on the gorillas’ location. Return to the lodge for lunch, and if time permits, visit the stunning twin lakes Bulera and Ruhondo. Later, drive back to Kigali for an overnight stay at Novotel Umubano or Kigali Serena Hotel, where you’ll enjoy a comfortable bed and breakfast.
